Magazine Industry Data

Much like Newspapers, Magazines are losing revenue from physical print circulation but finding innovative ways to tackle this problem like websites and social media pages . With over 8000 magazines in circulation, there is lots of choice for UK citizens. Though most magazines are based on differing concepts from style to specific hobbies and interests some of the most purchased magazines are ones that state TV listings and times as this is a popular ac tivity across most of the British public. However, apart from these TV magazines , National Geographic is the most brought magazine in Britain.   It is not known how many magazines own a website; however popular magazines are known to have an online presence as well as a physical one too. 72% of adults in the UK read print and online magazine content every month . Because every magazine has a different subject matter, adults in the UK read differently. The numbers of people who read magazines of different subject matters dif...

Colour Scheme

Image
For my colour schemes for both my cover and webpage I wanted to test the difference between cool and warm tone s . I consistently wanted a very dark colour contrasted with a very light colour similar to black and white (but not as exact as black and white because would be harsh on people eyes which can cause eyestrain if they spend too long at the screen ) so I knew that if I wanted to keep a mostly two toned simple palette I could use that along with a brighter colour that fit s along with the hues . Trying to make the palettes as appealing as possible to the target audience, s ome of the colours are analogous to each other , or I have used diffe ring shades and altered luminosity of colours to make the schemes .

Fonts

My first dec i s ion when deciding on what font to use for my magazine covers specifically was whether to have a serif font or a sans serif font. Though a serif font accentuate s the higher detail in the typeface, for my audience and specific magazine I want a simple but elegant font so a serif font would not suit my needs for this product. Browsing the Adobe Gallery of fonts allowed me to filter what type of font I wanted and when I found a few which looked appealing and appropriate I tested out how I wanted to type and layout my fonts and what purpose I would use them for.   For the first set I used the Baucher Gothic URW which has sharper edges and the spacing of the letters felt too close together and to try and improve it I warped the text into the flag setting on photoshop , however it still did not appeal to me so I moved on to the next font.   The next font, (insert font), appealed to me for both a m asthead and coverlines as I experimented with capitals and lower cas...

Magazine Moodboard

Choosing magazines for inspiration for my own the aspects I looked for and interested me the most were: font, colour scheme, composition of the page, outfit the model was wearing and pose. I tried to get a range of these poses and outfits that would interest the target audience for my magazine by including popular culture and fashion that is relatable.
